Social Movements of Today Overview:

In this lesson, students will brainstorm current social movements and write them on the board. If students cannot brainstorm any current movements, the teacher will give an example. Teacher and students will then pick one movement and answer the three questions asked about Child Labor, Women’s Suffrage, and Prohibition

(listed to the left). Once students have researched the chosen social movement, they will write an op-ed piece answering the question “What should current social movements learn from the past?” In the op-ed piece students will need to state a specific course of action to take, use specific examples from the unit, include five key terms and make several references to social movements in the past.
